By now, you’ve probably heard all the stories about Powerball and other massive lottery jackpots. The odds? Not exactly in your favor—Powerball sits at 1 in 292 million. But that doesn’t mean a little extra luck can’t help.
The California Lottery now publishes an annual list of Lucky Lottery Retailers—stores that have proven to be hot spots for winning tickets. To earn the “Lucky” designation, a retailer must meet at least one of the following criteria in the previous year:
- Sold at least one winning ticket worth $100,000 or more
- Paid out an average of 400 winning tickets per week
- Paid out an average of $4,000 in winnings per week
How to Find Lucky Retailers Near You
- Visit calottery.com
- Click “Where to Play” in the top-right menu
- Enter your ZIP code
- Check the box for “Show only Lucky Retailers”
A map will appear showing all the lucky retailers in your area.
We tested it out with the iconic Blue Bird Liquor in Hawthorne, California — famous for the tradition of rubbing your ticket on the blue bird at the register for good luck. Sure enough, when you enter ZIP code 90250 and filter for lucky retailers, Blue Bird still makes the list for 2024.
The list is extensive—and that might be good news for hopeful players. The California Lottery also offers a tool where you can enter your own “lucky numbers” to see how often they’ve appeared in past draws for Powerball, Mega Millions and SuperLotto Plus.
Good luck—and play responsibly!
