A wedding crasher was spotted stealing up to $100,000 in wedding gifts — bringing the happy couple’s reception to a grinding halt.
The thief was caught on camera as he snatched a box of envelopes full of cash and checks from the reception at the Renaissance Banquet in Glendale, California, just after midnight Saturday, according to KTLA,
He slipped past security guards — but one of the bride’s girlfriends who saw him at it quickly alerted everyone.
“At that point, the music stopped, everyone was aware of the situation,” bride Nadeen Farahat told KTLA, adding that the theft left her speechless.
“It’s such a memorable and happy day and you’re having so much fun. You don’t think about this stuff. It’s the last thing that could’ve been on anyone’s mind,” she added.
Security footage from the banquet hall shows the alleged thief in all black clothing pacing around the lobby and appearing to speak on his cell phone. He then goes into the ballroom where the wedding celebration was roaring.
He appeared to order a drink from the bar and approached an area of the dance floor away from the guests. Footage shows him then lean down, pick something up and then take off running out a side door.
Outside, he got into a black Mercedez Benz and drove off before anyone could react.
“It was a wonderful party until the incident took place,” groom George Farahat said.
The couple said they had paid extra money to hire security for the reception.
After reaching out to all the guests they estimate they lost between $80,000 and $100,000.
The couple filed a report with the Glendale Police Department, which is investigating.
