The New York Knicks have made a couple of notable additions this offseason, signing Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency. Both players should give the Knicks a much-needed boost off the bench, but there is no doubt that New York could afford to add another piece off the pine.

Of course, right now, the Knicks don’t have much more to offer than the veteran’s minimum, so their options are limited. But there are still some players available that could absolutely help New York next season.

On that note, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic has identified a very intriguing option for the Knicks: guard Monte Morris.

“Injuries sidelined Morris for most of the 2023-24 season, and last season, he saw time in a weird Phoenix Suns rotation, but he’s a veteran point guard who can make the open 3, set up an offense and won’t turn the ball over,” Edwards wrote. “He’d be good insurance to have at the very least and, potentially, as a solid ballhandler for the roster if needed.”

Morris played in 45 games and averaged 5.2 points over 12.7 minutes a night last season, shooting 42.6 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point range.

It was actually a down year for Morris based on his historical percentages, as he is a lifetime 47.4 percent shooter and boasts a 38.9 percent efficiency rate from long distance.

The 30-year-old has averaged double figures in scoring four times throughout his eight-year NBA tenure, most recently doing so in 2022-23 when he posted 10.3 points per game with the Washington Wizards.

Morris’ best years came with the Denver Nuggets earlier in his career, and while he may not be able to reach those heights again, he would at least be able to provide the Knicks with a reliable veteran scorer/shooter, something they could certainly use.

We’ll see if New York makes a move for Morris, who could end up being a steal for somebody before long.
