HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — After a mainly dry weekend across the area, rain chances are on the rise for the region. Along with the increase in rain showers, we will also see another brief cooldown, with lows forecast to fall into the 50s for some locations.
Monday will start dry across the area with a mix of sun and clouds. By midday and early afternoon, isolated showers will start to develop. Showers will not be widespread on Monday, but a heavy downpour will be possible.
A greater chance for widespread showers and isolated storms will arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday as multiple disturbances track through the region. Winds will shift out of the south, allowing moisture to filter into the region, supporting pockets of heavy rain.
There will be a chance for a strong storm or two on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Storms that can develop will be capable of producing strong winds over 40 mph, frequent lightning, small hail, and locally heavy rain.
The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted the area for the risk of excessive rain that could lead to flash flooding. Rain totals through Wednesday will range from 0.75 to 1.25 inches, with isolated higher totals possible.
After ending August with a rain deficit of nearly 2.50 inches, any rainfall we see will be very beneficial.
Downward Trend In Low Temperatures:
When it comes to temperatures this week, it will be a mild start to the week before a brief cool down returns to the forecast. You really will feel the difference when you wake up and head out the door in the morning, with lows nearly ten degrees cooler than normal by Saturday and Sunday morning.
