The New England Patriots experienced some major changes this offseason, highlighted by the hiring of Mike Vrabel.
Vrabel will try to get the Patriots back into the playoffs and be real contenders once again. Drake Maye seems to have the organization’s full trust at quarterback, but it will take a full team around him to get into the playoffs.
The Patriots under Tom Brady and Bill Belichick became accustomed to being Super Bowl contenders nearly every season. Their dynasty is regarded as one of the best in the history of the NFL.
Obviously, Brady was not the only player on those teams. Many great players played a role, including Rob Gronkowski, who recently questioned one position group on this year’s Patriots team.
“I like what they’re doing — big time,” Gronkowski told NBC Sports Boston’s Kayla Burton. “I feel like they filled all of the gaps that they needed to fill in the offseason. I think the offensive line is going to be a little bit questionable still, but I think they’re gonna figure it out.”
The Patriots gave up 52 sacks last season, which was the fifth most in the entire league. They clearly viewed the offensive line as an area of focus, as they drafted Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick. The team also signed veteran offensive lineman Morgan Moses.
Gronkowski won three Super Bowls with the Patriots and is one of the greatest tight ends of all time. He understands the importance of having a great offensive line. He did raise some concern about the unit this year, but is not writing them off.
