The debate over the greatest basketball player of all time, or the G.O.A.T, is never-ending.

It’s been an ongoing debate for a long time now, and as of late, the discussion has centered on two of the very best to ever lace them up: Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
James and Jordan have been at the forefront of the debate, and rightfully so. The two have made their mark in the game and are widely regarded as two of the very best. However, there are others who hold a different perspective on the matter, including Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr.
In a recent interview with YouTube livestreamer Plaqueboymax, Porter shared that he names his former teammate and three-time NBA MVP, Nikola Jokic, the basketball GOAT.
“I’m going, Nikola Jokić,” Porter Jr. said in a recent interview. “The reason I say that is because he could have won MVP five years in a row. Can you name another player who could’ve won MVP five years?”

Jokic certainly has the stats and accolades to back this theory. Although Jokic is only entering his 11th season in the NBA, his resume matches that of the greats in the game.
In 10 NBA seasons, Jokic has already earned three MVP awards, seven All-Star selections, seven All-NBA honors, the 2023 Western Conference MVP title, and an NBA championship, as well as a Finals MVP award.
There is no doubt of Jokic’s impact on the game. His offensive prowess is unparalleled. His ability to score the ball and find others with his exceptional passing is comparable only to the likes of James, Magic Johnson, and other great point guards the game has ever seen.
As a seven-footer, Jokic is the only center in NBA history to average a triple-double, and the third player ever to do so behind Oscar Robertson and his former teammate, Russell Westbrook.
Jokic’s resume will only get better, but with only one title under his belt, he’ll need to add to that if he wants to be considered one of the greatest players to ever grace the court.
The 30-year-old has other priorities in life, so if you were to ask him, he couldn’t care less about where you have him on the all-time list.
As things stand, it’s a James and Jordan debate, but Porter is doing his best to give his former teammate some love in that regard.
