Labor Day is a federal holiday, meaning some mail services will be limited on September 1.

It also marks an unofficial end to the summer for many Americans. Some businesses, including mail carriers, will either be closed or operating on limited hours due to the holiday this year.

USPS Service on Labor Day 2025
Millions of Americans rely on the United States Postal Service (USPS) for personal and business use, but its service is to be impacted by Labor Day, as it is a government agency that halts most operations on each federal holiday.
No regular mail delivery will be offered on the holiday, though some services like ordering stamps may still be available online. USPS self-service kiosks may also still be accessible.
“Post Offices will be closed on Monday, September 1st, 2025, in observance of Labor Day. There will be no mail delivery, caller service or Post Office Box service. All services resume on Tuesday, September 2nd. Post Offices will be open for regularly scheduled hours on Saturday, August 30th,” a press release from USPS reads.
Generally, most state and federal offices are closed for all federal holidays, including Labor Day. Operations resume on Tuesday.
UPS Service on Labor Day 2025
Private mail carriers will also be impacted by the holiday.
There will be no UPS pickup or delivery service on Labor Day, and UPS store locations may also be closed, according to the company’s website. Individuals looking for mail service on Monday should check with their local stores for specific hours of operation.
UPS Express Critical services will still be available through MNX, as the service is offered every day of the year.
FedEx Service on Labor Day 2025
FedEx also only offers select delivery on Labor Day.
FedEx delivery and freight will be closed, according to the company’s holiday schedule. Some FedEx office locations will be closed, but others may be open with modified hours. FedEx Custom Critical will remain open.
Amazon Service on Labor Day 2025
Millions of Americans rely on Amazon for package delivery, and the company will be making deliveries on Labor Day, a spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek.
Other Businesses
Most other government services are generally closed for federal holidays. Banks also close their doors on Labor Day, but ATMs are still open.
Large national retailers and restaurants may adjust their hours, but it’s best to double-check by calling a store before visiting, in case it’s closed. Walmart and Target remain open on Labor Day, but operating hours may vary by store and could be affected by the holiday.
