A man was hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting in Los Angeles’ Jefferson Park neighborhood early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. near Jefferson Boulevard and Ninth Avenue. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were already in the area when they encountered a suspect armed with a firearm.
Details are limited, but initial reports say multiple shots were then exchanged between the suspect and officers.
Police said the suspect was struck during the gunfire but managed to flee on foot, and he ran about two blocks before officers took him into custody near 7th Avenue. The suspect, who has only been identified as a male, was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
No officers were injured, and the LAPD said investigators recovered the suspect’s firearm at the scene.
Video from the scene showed flashing patrol car lights illuminating the intersection, with police tape cordoning off the area as investigators examined evidence. Officers could be seen canvassing the street and interviewing witnesses while crime scene units worked under the glow of floodlights.
Authorities have not released information on what led up to the encounter, and the incident remains under investigation.
