The New Orleans Saints are beginning the season with Spencer Rattler as the starting quarterback. With Week 1 right around the corner, the Saints are still working to add some pieces to their roster.

The Saints are bringing in wide receiver Brenden Rice for a workout on Monday, according to Jordan Schultz.

Rice is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, and he had a workout with the Philadelphia Eagles previously after being waived by the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday.

Rice played college football at Colorado and then USC before being selected by the Chargers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Rice, 23, played just 13 snaps across three games for the Chargers in 2024 while being used primarily on special teams. However, he landed on IR in November with a season-ending shoulder injury.

After the Chargers waved him, Mike Garafolo reported that a practice squad spot was “possible,” but the Saints will be the second team to bring him in for a visit.

Rice’s best college season came in 2023 when he set career-highs across the board with 45 receptions, 791 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching passes from Caleb Williams.

As of now, the Saints WR room consists of Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, Rashid Shaheed, Mason Tipton, Trey Palmer and Devaughn Vele, who the team just acquired via a trade with the Denver Broncos.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers just waived Palmer, so the Saints have been working hard ahead of Week 1 to add some pass-catchers to the fold.
