Former New York City Mayor was seriously injured in a car accident on Saturday evening, according to a statement from his security team.
Writing on X, Giuliani’s head of security, Michael Ragusa, said the former mayor’s vehicle had been “struck from behind at high speed.”
Ragusa said Giulani had been “transported to a nearby trauma center where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.”
Ragusa said Giuliani had been driving a rental car at the time of the incident, noting that the incident was not targeted.
Crash not linked to earlier incident says bodyguard
He also said it had nothing to do with an earlier separate incident mentioned by the bodyguard.
Giuliani, said Ragusa, had been “flagged down by a woman who was the victim of domestic violence incident” without going into detail as the the where and why of the Giuliani’s purported assistance for the woman.
Giuliani’s son Andrew also took to social media, writing: “Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world.”
