Virginia Tech is coming off a tough season, one that saw the Hokies go 6-7 and 4-4 in ACC play. Virginia Tech qualified for a bowl game, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, where it fell to Minnesota 24-10. In that game, Hokies quarterback William Watson III struggled, completing just eight of 12 passes for 81 yards and one interception. Wide receiver Ayden Greene caught six passes for 115 yards in the performance.
South Carolina, meanwhile, went 9-4 last season with a 5-3 record in SEC play, which is why the No. 13 Gamecocks are favored to win today. South Carolina ended the season on a low note, however, falling 21-17 to Illinois in the Cheeze-It Citrus Bowl. South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers had a good game in the defeat, completing 24 of 34 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown. Running back Oscar Adaway III ran the ball 14 times for 69 yards and one touchdown in the defeat for South Carolina.
