Aston Martin Formula One driver Fernando Alonso has reacted to Taylor Swift‘s engagement with Travis Kelce. Rumors suggested that Alonso and the American singer dated back in 2023, but there was no official confirmation and many agree there was no hard evidence to support the speculation.

A report confirmed that Alonso appeared in a photo on social media with Swift’s song Karma playing in the background in the same year. The following year, in 2024, Swift released a song titled imgonnagetyouback, which interestingly features the line “I’m an Aston Martin that you steered straight into the ditch then ran and hid.”

Now though, with Swift all set to marry Kelce after their engagement, Alonso reacted to the event on Sky Sports F1 when drivers were asked about the trending news. He said:

“Good, congratulations, I guess?”

The 44-year-old driver raised hopes when he finished the first two Dutch GP practice sessions in P4 and P2. The qualifying round on Saturday saw him enter Q3, but he set the tenth-fastest time, even being outqualified by rookie driver Isack Hadjar, who secured a P4 race start. When asked by ESPN if he expected to qualify better at Zandvoort, he said:

“No, I didn’t expect many difficulties, but well, I know it’s normal that we’re among the top three or four on Friday.

“There will be other Fridays when we’re among the top three or four, but we knew we weren’t going to be fighting with the top teams.”

He added:

“We were probably running with less fuel than the other cars. It usually happens to us. On Fridays, we are at 100%, the others always need a bit of practice to get the optimal set-up, so that everything goes well, and the drivers too.

“Fortunately, I have the experience to quickly get to know the circuits and the car, so in Q1 or FP1 I don’t need as much time to be at 100%, and the others improve little by little, they improve, and in the end you finish in the position that the car deserves a little, and today it was P10.

“We made it to Q3, which is usually the goal for the weekend, to be in the top 10 on Saturday and then score points on Sunday. We achieved that on Saturday, so let’s see if we can score points tomorrow as well.”

Despite the marginal improvements he observed after Aston Martin brought in upgrades for the AMR25 F1 car in Hungary, Alonso stressed that the team still had a long way to go to find more performance. He said:

“I think a lot of things have changed and there are a couple of new components that I think woke up the car a little bit and the aeroplatform.

“So yeah, I think we are in a much better place now since Budapest than in the past. But, it’s still a long way off. As we saw today, we are just hardly fighting for Q3, so it’s still a long way to go.”
