Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer Slammed by Skip Bayless After Florida State Loss

After finishing the 2024 season 9-4 in the first year of head coach Kalen DeBoer, the Alabama Crimson Tide were expected to take a significant step in Year 2 with the 50-year-old. However, it’s off to a difficult start.

Coming into the 2025 college football season, Alabama was ranked No. 8 in the country, with its opening game coming on the road against the Florida State Seminoles. The Crimson Tide were never in control of this game, losing 31-14 to an unranked opponent.

Following the loss, sports media broadcaster Skip Bayless fired off a reality check take on his X account, saying that the Alabama that everyone knew under former head coach Nick Saban is gone and that his successor’s job could be in jeopardy.

“Alabama is no longer Alabama,” Bayless wrote. “The new quarterback just isn’t good enough, and I’m having increasing doubts about the head coach, whose seat is now the hottest in college football.”

The new quarterback Bayless refers to is Ty Simpson, who had a decent game, completing 23 of 42 passes for 254 passing yards and two touchdowns. However, Simpson didn’t have that marquee moment in the game in which Alabama could sense that a comeback was brewing.

Losing to an unranked Florida State side puts the Crimson Tide in a challenging position heading into September. DeBoer and company will face the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the Wisconsin Badgers before their marquee SEC matchup on September 27 against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Alabama cannot afford to stumble heading into the clash against the Bulldogs late next month. Moreover, the loss to Florida State puts the Crimson Tide in a must-win situation, as a win over Georgia can at least offset the loss to the Seminoles.

Nonetheless, if DeBoer has two or more losses to the record by the end of September, serious questions about his job will emerge if they haven’t already after starting the season 0-1.
