For Teyana Taylor, peace is priceless.
The singer explained in a new interview that being ordered to pay her ex-husband, Iman Shumpert, $70,000 for violating the terms of their divorce agreement was money well spent.
“To punish me because of my accolades is insane,” she said on “The Breakfast Club” earlier this week.
“However, if it’s gonna give me my peace and we can be done with this for good, I sent that wire so fast. I sent that wire so f–king fast. That was the best lil coin I ever spent in my life because I never have to deal with this again.”
She added that “will never allow a person to silence” her.
Taylor — who claimed in her January 2023 divorce filing that the former basketball player was a jealous emotional abuser who was insecure about her fame — further claimed in her “Breakfast Club” sit-down, “Let’s look at the pattern. We went to court July 25th. This thing about me paying him $70,000, or his lawyers $70,000, came out a week before my album dropped.”
The musician — who has accused Shumpert, 35, of leaking information about their divorce judgment to the press — took it a step further by alleging he orchestrated a “smear campaign” against her and “poke[d]” at her via social media knowing how “quiet” and private she is.
That’s when she “hopped on [Instagram] Live” because “people get tired.”
“Every single time something amazing is going on in my life, it’s something about this divorce. It don’t be nothing else. I’m never in nothing,” she lamented.
During the March Live, Taylor told her followers in part, “Before this divorce, during this divorce and after this divorce, I protected that man with all I had in me. … So the fact that you are OK with the world thinking that I took you for everything that you had, have the world thinking that I tried to get you locked up?”
She continued, “For people that are saying, ‘What would Iman get out of leaking these rumors that make you look bad?’ Some people are OK with looking bad just as long as you look worse.”
During last month’s hearing, the judge ruled that Taylor’s video disclosed information about the exes’ June 2024 divorce judgment, which they agreed not to do.
The former couple got married in October 2016 and welcomed two daughters: Junie, 9, and Rue, 4.
