The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the best teams in baseball this season, but they have some clear needs to address in the offseason.
As good as the team has been, the outfield group has been a disappointment. Nick Castellanos has not played like the All-Star caliber player he has been in the past, Brandon Marsh has been underwhelming and Max Kepler has not been good.
The Phillies traded for Harrison Bader at the trade deadline, and he is hitting .313 with the Phillies. However, he has a mutual option for next season and could be a free agent. Kepler will be a free agent, and Marsh and Castellanos are both under contract.
The Phillies could target outfielders at the trade deadline, and FanSided’s Matt Grazel suggested the team swing a trade for Adolis García of the Texas Rangers.
“During this year’s trade deadline, García’s name surfaced as a fit for the Phillies before they acquired Harrison Bader,” wrote Grazel. “García is earning $10.5 million in 2025 and has one more year of arbitration remaining before he becomes a free agent in 2027. García could be a candidate for Philadelphia to trade for in the offseason.”
García is a two-time All-Star, Gold Glove Award winner and World Series champion. He has dealt with some inconsistencies in his game over the last couple of seasons.
He was an All-Star in 2023, but over the last two years, he has a .687 OPS. He has 43 home runs in the span, but has not been as good as he was before.
In 2023, he had 39 home runs, an .836 OPS and 107 RBIs. He also put together a postseason to remember, helping lead the Rangers to a World Series victory. He slashed .323/.382/.726 with eight home runs in October.
