Mubi will release Father Mother Sister Brother, the latest feature from veteran indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, in the U.S. on December 24.
Written and directed by Jarmusch, the film stars Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Françoise Lebrun.
The film’s official synopsis reads: Father Mother Sister Brother is a feature film, though carefully constructed in the form of a triptych. The three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. FATHER is set in the Northeast US, MOTHER in Dublin, Ireland, and SISTER BROTHER in Paris, France. The film is a series of character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental – a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy.
Producers on the film are Charles Gillibert, Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan, and Atilla Salih Yücer. The Match Factory is handling international sales and reported a host of early deals in July. Along the U.S., Mubi has the rights for Latin Americathe , UK, Ireland, Benelux, Turkey, and India.
Jarmusch was joined on the feature by directors of photography Frederick Elmes (The Dead Don’t Die, Paterson) and Yorick Le Saux (Only Lovers Left Alive, Personal Shopper) and production designers Mark Friedberg (Joker, Paterson) and Marco Bittner-Rosser(Only Lovers Left Alive, Tár).
Editing was led by Affonso Gonçalves (I’m Still Here, Paterson); costume design was by Catherine George (Mickey 17, We Need To Talk About Kevin); artistic creator for Saint Laurent was Anthony Vaccarello; sound design was by Robert Hein(The Dead Don’t Die, Ad Astra), casting by Ellen Lewis (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Dead Don’t Die). Music is by Jarmusch and Anika.
The film debuts this weekend in Venice. Watch the film’s first teaser above.
