Officers with the California Highway Patrol are in pursuit of a driver suspected of being intoxicated that was initiated by deputies with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Thursday night.
The driver, who had their lights blacked out, was driving in southbound lanes of the 118 Freeway before exiting at Century. The suspect then rear ended an innocent driver on Figueroa, causing both vehicles to spinout and the suspect vehicle to collide with a palm tree on the sidewalk.
The pursuit suspect and a passenger exited the vehicle as the driver in a white sedan pulled up and eventually picked up both of the people in the original pursuit vehicle.
Reporting from Sky5, KTLA’s Gil Leyvas said that the innocent motorist’s car appeared to be totaled.
L.A. police joined the pursuit of the second vehicle as it hit high speeds on surface streets on Western Avenue. Later, there were reports that police were involved in a second crash at Sepulveda Boulevard and Manchester Avenue.
The driver of the white sedan wound their way to the 405 Freeway with the vehicle’s light blacked out before, again, exiting to surface streets and moving into LAX airspace, making it difficult to track from the air.
Sky5 is overhead.
