Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers are expected to be a top-tier contender in the NFC this season. After being a borderline contender over the last two years, a step forward is expected from the storied franchise.
Looking at the roster, there is no reason the Packers would not be a Super Bowl contender. They are loaded with talent on both sides of the roster. That could lead to some pressure for LaFleur when it comes to his job safety.
Green Bay expects to win championships. That isn’t something that has been done since the 2010 season. It’s time for the team to get back to the big game.
With that in mind, a new update has been shared about LaFleur’s status with the Packers. He might not be safe.

Matt Schneidman, who covers Green Bay for The Athletic, revealed that he believes new team president and CEO Ed Policy is not sold on either LaFleur or general manager Brian Gutekunst. He wants to have an answer for the future by the end of this season.
“I believe Ed Policy is on the fence regarding the futures of LaFleur and Gutekunst. Huge season for both of them coming up,” Schneidman wrote.
Since taking over as the Packers’ head coach, LaFleur has had a lot of regular season success. However, he has suffered some major disappointment in the playoffs.
His regular season record stands at 67-33, while his playoff record is just 3-5. While regular season success is great, Green Bay has had teams that should have been much more successful in the postseason.

Gutekunst could also be facing the hot seat. He has failed to build rosters that can win a Super Bowl. Some could argue that he’s been “successful” at his job, but his work has not led to deep playoff runs.
A lot is riding on the upcoming 2025 NFL season for both LaFleur and Gutekunst. LaFleur, in particular, needs to prove that he can get the most out of such a talented roster.
Should he be unable to do that, rumblings could begin getting louder about the Packers’ coaching job opening up.
