Summary

  • Netflix’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story, starring Charlie Hunnam, will premiere October 3
  • The series explores Gein’s life, showing how his gruesome crimes made him a “singular ghoul”
  • The story of the “Butcher of Plainfield” inspired horror classics such as Psycho

Netflix has shared posters and the official release date of Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

The upcoming season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology series stars Charlie Hunnam as the infamous serial killer. “Monster: The Ed Gein Story tells the story of how one simple man in Plainfield, Wisconsin, became history’s most singular ghoul. He revealed to the world the most horrific truth of all — that monsters aren’t born, they’re made … by us,” the announcement reads.

Joining Hunnam in the cast are Suzanna Son, Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Joey Pollari, Tyler Jacob Moore, Charlie Hall, Will Brill, Mimi Kennedy, Robin Weigert and Lesley Manville.

The reclusive Gein committed his gruesome and violent crimes from the late ’40s to late ’50s in his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin. The “Butcher of Plainfield” was convicted of murdering two women but was suspected of committing seven more. He also exhumed and mutilated corpses from local graveyards to create keepsakes. The depravity of his actions and obsession with his mother went on to serve as the cornerstone of some of horror’s most revered titles such as Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Check out the posters below. Monster: The Ed Gein Story premieres October 3 on Netflix.
