Samford and West Georgia are meeting for the seventh time, with the series tied at 3-3. Last season, West Georgia came away with a 38-29 win. The teams have previously played in 1984, 1988, 1989, 1992, and 2008, with the home team winning each game.
While West Georgia has new offensive and defensive coordinators, the Wolves do have quarterback Davin Wydner returning. He threw for over 1,700 yards and nine touchdowns, while adding seven rushing touchdowns last season.
Defensively, UWG’s top two tacklers from last season in Jay Carter and Micah Thurman, are back. Head coach Joel Taylor and his staff brought in over 30 transfers via the portal, including 16 defensive additions.
