A baby’s hysterical reaction caught on camera as her dad tries to check if she has pooped has left the internet in stitches.
Mom Mallory (@malrob8) shared baby camera footage of her husband trying to sniff their baby’s diaper in utter darkness, completely unaware of her hysterical facial expression. The video has garnered 290,600 likes and 2.9 million views on TikTok.
“My husband trying to see if our baby pooped in the pitch black not knowing she’s staring right at him,” she wrote as the text overlaying the hysterical scene.
“It’s always the ‘I think she did can you go sniff’ and trying to locate the booty in the dark,” she captioned the post.
The dad leans down to intensely sniff his daughter, and she lies flat on her back gazing up at him adorably.
Luckily, the mom revealed the baby went straight back to sleep after the diaper change.
When it comes to baby monitors and nighttime checking, Parents.com reports that experts caution against over-reliance as babies grow up, since constant surveillance can heighten parent anxiety and even make kids feel less safe.
Clinical psychologist Rebecca Schrag Hershberg, Ph.D. suggests many children are ready to go monitor-free somewhere around ages 3–5, depending on development and a family’s setup.
Therapist Jennifer Bronsnick advises tapering alerts (like turning off sound notifications) as babies grow so parents can trust their instincts; there’s no single “right” age because health needs and room distance matter.
TikTokers were quick to pile into the comments.
“The baby: ‘You honestly could’ve just asked me, I’m up,’” said Tank.
“Whatchaaaa doin…” said Dawn.
“You find what you was looking for sir,” quipped another user.
“If my baby girl looking at me like that… I know she pooped,” said one mom.
“I’M ROLLING, literally tears running down my face,” said another viewer.
“Almost woke my baby up laughing at this!” said Jilli.
“Omg I’m dying she’s like wth [what the hell] is going on here!” said Jacqueline.
“I have a face mask on and I’m trying not to laugh it’s peeling my mask,” added Brookie.
“Not me laughing because my husband does bedtime with our 18-month-old, and I’ll watch on the monitor and he will be on his phone thinking she’s asleep and she’s laying there awake,” added Shannon.
