Weddings are a special day shared with the couple’s closest friends and family, and sometimes that includes pets.
The trend of incorporating pets into a wedding day is here to stay, with 81 percent of owners who are currently engaged, or expecting to be soon, planning to include their furry friends on their special day, according to a survey from Rover. This might include pets walking down the aisle, appearing in photos or featured in the decor.
Katie Varellas, known on TikTok as @itsakatierose, and her now-husband are among the 44 percent of owners who have already celebrated their wedding day with their pets.
Varellas told Newsweek that her dog, Princess Serenity, stayed by her side the entire day, noting that the little Maltese is a “velcro dog,” a term used to describe clingy canines who follow their humans constantly and often seek attention.
But it wasn’t until Varellas looked back at the photos that it became clear how involved the small dog was on her big day.
She shared one of the many photos she took that day on TikTok on June 11, bringing in over 1.5 million views. Her dress twirled in front of her as her loved ones huddled close together. As she stared at the photo, she realized Princess Serenity snuck her way in.
Her furry sidekick’s head poked out from behind her wedding gown. Princess Serenity’s white fur blended into the dress, making Varellas almost miss her, but the dog’s big eyes looked directly at the camera. She was camera-ready and rocking a dress of her own.
“I didn’t know until after the photo was taken,” Varellas said. “She ended up sitting on my train my whole wedding.”
TikTok users stopped in their tracks once they spotted Princess Serenity in the post captioned “The tiniest flower girl,” taking her spot, front and center, in the photo.
“Shes actually the bride. She said, ‘Pls don’t wear white to her big day next time,’” joked one amused viewer.
“Stopppppp! She’s just tucked away letting you shine,” a second commenter wrote.
A third commenter wrote, “I’m gonna cry this is the cutest thing ever!”
“She said that’s my mommy first and your wife second bud,” another TikTok user commented.
