Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce, subtly reacted to his engagement to Taylor Swift on social media.
Newsweek reached out to Donna Kelce’s representative for comment on Wednesday via email outside regular working hours.
Why It Matters
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, and pop star, 35, sent the internet into a frenzy on Tuesday when they announced their engagement via social media. The post even got a reaction from President Donald Trump.
Since the high-profile couple began dating in 2023, their relationship has played out in the public eye, with people both praising and criticizing their every move.
The news comes just weeks after Swift revealed her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, is coming this October.
What To Know
On Tuesday, Donna Kelce clicked the heart button on her son and future daughter-in-law’s Instagram message.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” they captioned a slew of photos, including one of Travis Kelce down on one knee.
The post, at time of writing, has 27.5 million likes, with many celebrities hitting the “like” button including: Gigi Hadid, Meghan Markle, Nina Dobrev, Shania Twain, Demi Lovato, Rachel Zegler, Reese Witherspoon, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Vanessa Bryant, Patrick Mahomes, Joanna Gaines, Simone Biles, Sophie Turner and more.
Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce’s brother, also “liked” the post, and their father, Ed Kelce, shared details about the engagement in a recent interview.
“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed Kelce told local outlet News 5 Cleveland. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.”
He added: “I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event… when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.” Swift’s father, Scott Swift, agreed with him, Ed Kelce said.
The proposal took place in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ …they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed Kelce continued. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”
