EXCLUSIVE: John Malkovich (The New Look, Dangerous Liaisons) has signed on to star in the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey as a series regular in Season 2. He joins series lead and executive producer Vince Vaughn in the comedy series from Bill Lawrence.

Based on Carl Hiaasen’s New York Times bestselling novel, the second season of Bad Monkey will be based on a new original story. Season 1 tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.

Malkovich will star as Spencer, the head of a major South Florida criminal organization.

Season 1 also starred L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, Jodie Turner-Smith, with special guest star John Ortiz and guest stars Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn, and Charlotte Lawrence. It remains unclear who, if anyone, from the original cast will reprise their roles in Season 2 other than Vaughn.

Hailing from Warner Bros. Television, Bad Monkey is developed by executive producer and showrunner Bill Lawrence through his Doozer Productions. In addition to Lawrence and Vaugh, Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses, Liza Katzer and Adam Sztykiel are also executive producers.

Malkovich is an Academy Award-nominated actor whose credits span theater, film, and television. His most recent TV roles include Netflix’s Ripley, The New Look from Apple TV+, and Showtime’s Billions. Up next, he can be seen in the Ayo Edebiri and Will Sharpe-led series Prodigies. In 1985, he received an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Biff Loman in the CBS TV movie Death of a Salesman, starring opposite Dustin Hoffman.

His film credits are extensive, including the two films for which he received Academy Award nominations, Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire. Other notable films are Being John Malkovich, Burn After Reading, Dangerous Liaisons, Empire of the Sun, The Killing Fields, and Con Air.

In addition to acting, Malkovich is a director and an original member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago. His theater credits include Of Mice and Men, The Libertine, and The Glass Menagerie. He is repped by WME.
