As a travel journalist, I’ve stayed in 303 luxury hotels and counting — but there’s nothing quite like the Four Seasons.
I have my dad to thank for my first foray into this luxury hotel franchise. When I was a child, he brought me on a family vacation to California to explore Disneyland, and we checked into the iconic Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons hotel.
Even though I was only in elementary school, I knew quality when I saw it and was in awe of all the “fancy” things around me, including a luxe bubble bath.
Since then, I’ve visited 48 Four Seasons hotels and resorts from Mexico to Dubai — and I’m already daydreaming about my milestone 50th visit. (Red Sea, I’m coming for you next!)
Although I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad time at the Four Seasons, a few properties really stood out from the rest.
The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita gave me a truly luxurious experience beyond my room.

Nestled in the peninsula of Punta Mita near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, this Four Seasons was one of the first properties to show me that luxury hotels are so much more than fancy beds.
I first visited in 2016 and was surprised by how interactive my stay was. From the self-described “aqua butler” who catered to my every poolside need to the delicious guacamole-making class on-site, every part of my stay felt like an experience.
I even got to choose the freshly-caught fish I wanted to eat for dinner. The memories I made at Punta Mita stayed with me long after I checked out.
Also in Mexico, the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo felt uniquely sustainable.

These days, many hotels are billed as sustainable — so I was admittedly apprehensive when I booked a stay at the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, which is on the so-called Happy Coast of Mexico’s Pacific coastline.
All my doubts disappeared the moment I drove through the gates of the massive private nature reserve. Throughout my stay, I noticed how intentional the entire staff was about every aspect of the grounds.
Food from resort restaurants is composted and used to sustain the in-house farm, Rancho Lola. The farm also hosts animals that consume excess food, helping to eliminate waste.
Plus, the handmade decor throughout comes from local artisans, and I learned that on-site biologists were brought in to help study and preserve the reserve’s ecosystems.
I was impressed by the 100-year history of the Four Seasons Istanbul at Sultanahmet.

Just a five-minute walk from the famed Hagia Sophia, the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet is located in a hard-to-beat part of the city.
Although some may prefer the views at the other Istanbul location along the Bosphorus, the history of the Sultanahmet hotel is what keeps me coming back — I’ve now been three times.
Not only do the well-appointed decor and magical open courtyard make me feel like a princess every time I visit, but the 100-year-old building also has a fascinating history. It was once a prison, and several classic Turkish novels were written by people detained there.
Today, some of the original marble is preserved in areas like the wall of the Kurna Spa. The combination of luxury and history really stuck with me.
The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River is also one of my favorites.

I visited the Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River for a birthday trip, and from the moment I checked in, I felt like I was in an episode of “The White Lotus” (sans all the drama and murder, of course).
The views of the Chao Phraya River and the city skyline from my room made waking up each day a dream. What really stood out, though, was the food — Bangkok is known for its cuisine, and the on-site restaurants fit in perfectly.
There was no need to brave traffic to find a restaurant when the Michelin-starred Yu Ting Yuan was in my lobby. I’d particularly recommend the sesame prawn toast with caviar and wok-fried kong bao chicken.
Every part of this hotel, from the luxurious spa to the delicious food, only solidified that I’ll forever be a Four Seasons girl.
