A woman in San Bernardino County was shot and killed by her estranged husband who then took his own life, authorities announced Monday.
The tragic incident unfolded on Aug. 22, according to the officials with the Upland Police Department.
Officers responded to the home about 8 p.m. for an “unknown trouble call,” UPD said in a news release posted to X, and discovered the husband and wife lying next to each other, each suffering from gunshot wounds.
The male was declared dead at the scene.
“The female victim was still fighting for her life and was rushed to a trauma center where she was placed on life support,” police said. Unfortunately, the female victim passed away from her injuries the next day.”
During the investigation, it was learned that the couple was going through a separation. Police said the woman went to the Upland residence to gather some of her belongings when her husband shot her before turning the gun on himself.
No information about the woman’s or the man’s identities was released, nor did investigators say where exactly in the city the incident took place.
“If you or anyone you know is in a volatile relationship, we encourage you to leave, and if you become a victim of domestic violence, report it immediately to law enforcement,” authorities said in the release.
Help for victims of domestic violence is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling the National Domestic Hotline at 800-799-7233 or texting “Start” to 88788 or through live chat on the organization’s website.
