Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene can now claim a new title: Congress’s highest-grossing author.

In a financial disclosure filed earlier this month, the Georgia Republican reported earning $178,229.99 in book royalties in 2024 from Winning Team Publishing, which published her 2023 autobiography “MTG.”

That’s more than the $174,000 annual salary that Greene and other rank-and-file lawmakers are paid for serving in Congress.

And it’s more than any other member of Congress reported making from book royalties and advances in 2024.

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania came close, disclosing a $172,500 advance payment for his forthcoming memoir “Unfettered.”

Two other senators — Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia and Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont — each reported roughly $150,000 in royalties for a variety of books they’ve published over the years.

Overall, lawmakers reported earning less from books this year than in previous years.

In 2022, six senators reported earning more than their annual salary of $174,000 from book sales. In 2023, eight senators reported earning more than $100,000 from book sales.

In 2024, just five lawmakers earned more than $100,000 from books, and Greene was the only lawmaker to crack $174,000.

Her book, according to a description online, is a “personal account of the battles she fights in the halls of Congress and beyond.”

Spokespeople for Greene did not respond to a request for comment.

Writing and selling books has long been a way for members of Congress to legally supplement their income and build wealth while serving in office.

While lawmakers are generally barred from earning more than about $30,000 from second jobs, there’s no limit on the amount of money that they can earn from book sales.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that he was able to pay off over $100,000 in student loan debt by writing a book when he was a senator. And Sanders spoke openly about how book-writing can be lucrative in a 2019 interview with the New York Times.

“I wrote a best-selling book,” Sanders told the Times. “If you write a best-selling book, you can be a millionaire, too.”
