For the first time in months, there was a positive development regarding Terry McLaurin and his standoff with the Washington Commanders. In light of this saga reaching its end, one key member of the organization weighed in with his thoughts.

McLaurin, who will turn 30 in a couple of weeks, had been in pursuit of a long-term extension all offseason. It might have taken longer than most wanted to, but an agreement has finally been reached.

On Monday morning, reports emerged that McLaurin inked a three-year extension with Washington worth upwards of $96 million. This deal gets him in his desired AAV of 30-plus million and lands him among the NFL‘s highest-paid players at the wide receiver position.

Now that the business side of things has been situated, McLaurin is expected to be on the field for the Commanders Week 1 against the New York Giants.

Magic Johnson sends message after Commanders and Terry McLaurin agree to contract extension

Given that this was one of the league’s longest holdouts this offseason, the McLaurin deal sent shockwaves through the football world. Among those to chime in with their thoughts was Commanders owner Magic Johnson.

The NBA legend posted a photo of him and McLaurin on social media while telling the world how excited he is that the star receiver will be staying in Washington.

“I’m thrilled that we resigned Terry McLaurin,” Johnson wrote in a post on X Monday. “Job well done by my partner Josh Harris and GM Adam Peters. This is great news for Commander players, our organization and all Commander fans! Terry is more than just a great football player, he is an outstanding leader and does tremendous things in the DMV community.”

Johnson became a minority owner of the Commanders back in the summer of 2023 as part of the investment group led by Josh Harris. It was one of the many franchises he holds ownership in across various professional sports.

Since being drafted by the Commanders back in 2019, McLaurin has emerged as a pillar for the franchise on and off the field. Washington said from the beginning how valuable he is to the organization, which is why they eventually paid top dollar to keep him around.

Now that his future is locked in, McLaurin can rejoin his teammates as they gear up for the 2025 campaign.
