The New York Yankees once had a commanding lead in the American League East. However, they are currently in third place and a wild-card team.
The Yankees are 32-35 against teams above .500. The Yankees are 1-8 against the Boston Red Sox, and Aaron Boone is catching plenty of heat. The latest loss against the Red Sox outlined the Yankees’ inability to play clean against better opponents.
With the stress level in the Bronx rising, FanSided’s Adam Weinrib urged the Yankees to make a drastic decision and fire Boone immediately.
“If a three-game dissection at the hands of the only opponent who matters isn’t enough to convince the powers that be that Boone has rotted this group to the core, perhaps a four-game surgery without anesthesia will be,” wrote Weinrib.
The Yankees have been to one World Series under Boone, and their sloppy play was on full display. While the team has been competitive under his leadership, his optimistic attitude is getting stale to fans who expect more.
Rumors of Boone’s job being in danger have been plentiful amid the Yankees’ struggles. The team started off strong, but since the start of June, they’re just 34-38.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Red Sox have both looked better than the Yankees as of late, furthering the fans’ frustration with Boone. Despite the Yankees’ resources and spending, they have been unable to dominate this year. Boone’s contract runs through 2027, and the team has not indicated they are looking to move on. However, the team’s collapse certainly creates some uncertainty.
