The Seattle Seahawks have largely revamped their receiving corps this offseason, trading D.K. Metcalf and releasing long-time veteran Tyler Lockett and replacing them with Cooper Kupp and a couple of intriguing rookies.

The Seahawks selected both Tory Horton and Ricky White III on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, bagging a couple of very enticing weapons who have “sleeper” written all over them heading into their debut campaigns.

However, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic does not anticipate that Seattle will retain both of them, as he is predicting the Seahawks to cut White before cutdown day this week.

“White led Seattle with 69 yards receiving and a touchdown, in addition to a couple good punt returns on Saturday, but that may have only secured him a spot on the practice squad,” Dugar wrote.

Dugar has the Seahawks rolling with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kupp, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jake Bobo, Horton and Dareke Young as their six receivers.

But would Seattle really pick both Valdes-Scantling and Young over White given White’s collegiate production?

The 23-year-old posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns at UNLV to conclude his NCAA tenure. Most recently, he caught 79 passes for 1,049 yards and 11 touchdowns. The year prior, White hauled in 88 receptions for 1,483 yards and eight scores, good for an average of 16.9 yards per grab.

White’s explosiveness definitely made him a rather enticing prospect heading into the draft, and some had him going a couple of rounds higher than when he was actually drafted.

Of course, the Seahawks could always just place him on the practice squad, as Dugar noted, but releasing him also comes with risk because another receiver-needy team could scoop him up.

White certainly exhibited terrific playmaking potential at UNLV, showing the ability to play both on the outside and in the slot. He also possesses decent size at 6-foot-1. We’ll see what Seattle decides to do with the youngster this week.
