“Emily in Paris” assistant director Diego Borella has died after collapsing on the set of the hit series.

According to La Repubblica, the Netflix show was shooting at the Hotel Danieli in Venice, Italy, when the 47-year-old collapsed in view of the crew after reportedly suffering a heart attack.

Per the outlet, medics arrived on the scene Thursday evening but were unable to revive him.

According to the Independent, the Venice health service said in a statement, “Our ambulance arrived at 6:42 p.m. Medics made attempts to resuscitate him. But in the end all efforts proved fruitless. At around 7:30 p.m., he was pronounced deceased.”

Production on the final episode of Season 5 was said to have been halted following the death, according to the Independent. However, filming resumed Saturday.

The shoot was scheduled to wrap on Monday, and the assistant director was reportedly set to film the show’s final scene.

Reps for Netflix did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

Borella was born in Venice and worked in London, New York and Rome prior to his death. He was also said to excel at writing poetry, children’s stories, and fairy tales, according to Italian outlets.

The show’s fifth season is scheduled to drop on Netflix in December. Prior to the assistant director’s death, the show’s star, Lily Collins, took to Instagram to tease the season with behind-the-scenes content.

“Joy ride to and from work with the best…” she captioned the photo carousel with co-star Ashley Park on Tuesday.

The beloved fashion-centric Netflix series — which premiered in 2020 — follows American marketing professional Emily Cooper (played by Collins), who moves to Paris to tackle her dream job at a French marketing house.

An official synopsis for the show’s fifth season teased “romantic challenges” for the show’s titular character.

“Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city,” it reads.

“But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships.”
