A routine drive to the hospital turned into an unforgettable delivery for two Canadian parents.

Larissa Gislason, 29, and her partner Aaron Labreche, 32, caught the moment she gave birth to their son in the front seat of the family car—just one minute from the hospital entrance. The footage was caught on their VAVA car dashcam, later posted in a clip on Gislason’s TikTok.

While Labreche speaks to hospital staff on the phone to tell them he’ll be “pulling up to the main entrance at the hospital in, like, one minute,” Gislason is going through more urgent contractions. A few moments later, Gislason says, “He’s coming, he’s coming!” As Labreche arrives at the hospital entrance, Gislason confirms that she has “got him” and he is fine.

Gislason told Newsweek she had been 39 weeks pregnant with her son, due February 4, when labor suddenly progressed far more quickly than expected.

“I had been having very tolerable contractions for about 15 hours prior to his birth,” Gislason said. “They weren’t long enough or intense enough to warrant any concern, so I just went about my day as normal.”

By 5 p.m., Gislason’s waters broke. While Labreche was collecting their 3-year-old Brielle from day care, she decided to have a quick shower before they got home.

“As I got into the shower, the first intense contraction hit, and I knew that I needed to get to the hospital immediately,” Gislason said.

The couple quickly arranged for Brielle to be picked up by Gislason’s stepfather-in-law before heading to the car. But, just minutes into the seven-minute drive, the mom realized the baby wasn’t going to wait.

“My body began involuntarily pushing so I told [Aaron] once we got just down the street from our house, that we should stop and call an ambulance,” Gislason said. “He told me we probably wouldn’t have any time to wait … so I told him to keep going.”

From the moment her water broke to her son’s birth, just 35 to 40 minutes had passed. “I remember putting my baby on my chest and feeling instant relief and excitement,” Gislason said.

That soon turned to concern when she realized baby Myles hadn’t cried yet.

“I was hearing him gurgling and whimpering, so I put my mouth over his nose and try to manually suction him with my mouth. It helped a little,” Gislason said.

Labreche, meanwhile, tried to remain calm, even as panic surged inside. By the time they reached Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Ontario, staff members were already waiting.

Gislason was wheeled through the emergency department on a stretcher, with Myles swaddled in blankets on her chest.

“The hospital staff were absolutely amazing—they seemed as shocked as we were,” said Gislason, now a mom of two. “My midwife was shocked as we had spoken on the phone around 3 p.m. that day, and everything was fine. She was shocked at how quickly my labor progressed.”

Gislason was happy to report that “we are doing fantastic, and Myles is a very happy, healthy boy.”
