Arizona AG accuses mobile home park of endangering residents with insufficient AC

PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is suing the owners and managers of a Tucson mobile home park.

The lawsuit targets Redwood Thunderbird MHPS LLC and BoaVida Communities, which operate Redwood Mobile Home Park.

Mayes accused them of endangering residents by failing to provide reliable air conditioning during extreme heat.

Why is Mayes suing the mobile home park?

According to Mayes, the park’s outdated and overloaded electrical system caused frequent power outages, leaving residents without cooling during triple-digit temperatures.

“This is a warning to all property managers: if you endanger residents with repeated electrical outages or A/C outages, my office will come after you,” Mayes said in the announcement.

The complaint alleges violations of the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act, citing the companies’ alleged failure to disclose the system’s inability to support basic appliances and air conditioning.

Residents reported outages occurring multiple times a day, sometimes lasting for hours.

Mobile homes, often constructed with metal exteriors, are especially vulnerable to overheating, Mayes said.

“Mobile home units in triple-digit heat and no A/C become an oven,” she said. “It’s dangerous and it’s only a matter of time before someone dies.”
