The New York Yankees have been on a roller-coaster ride this season, and they’re back at the bottom right now. The Bronx Bombers likely feel as if they should be at the top of the American League East, but they can’t be there if they can’t beat their rivals, the Boston Red Sox.
On Thursday, the Red Sox came into the Bronx and beat the Yankees 6-3, backed by a solid offensive performance. On Friday night, the Red Sox beat the Yankees again, this time in a 1-0 pitcher’s duel. The third game of the four-game set didn’t go in the Yankees’ favor either, as Aaron Judge and company fell 12-1 to Boston.
After the game, Judge had a message for his team and the media.
“There’s nothing we can do about the past 100-something games we’ve played. We’ve got to focus on what we can do now. That’s all we can do,” Judge said following the Yankees’ one-sided loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, via MLB’s Bryan Hoch.
Judge’s mindset is the only mindset that will help the Yankees get out of the rut.
The team can’t fixate on the losses in the same way the fanbase or media does. Instead, they have to be able to quickly turn the page and focus on the next game.
Judging by the way that Judge, the team’s captain, and a few other players have responded, it seems like they’re all on board with putting the losses behind them and focusing on the future.
Now, something is going to need to change in the future if the Yankees want to see World Series-level success.
