The 1980s gave the world many iconic garments, but none come close to the classic ’80s blazer. That decade, power dressing, introduced by designer Donna Karan, put on the map an exaggerated and elegant silhouette, which quickly made its way from the boardroom to street style.

Last year, Saint Laurent, Nina Ricci and Balmain all introduced modern interpretations of this icon. Now, in Spring-Summer 2025, items like the ’80s blazer are appearing as a direct response to quiet luxury, with oversized booties, prints, and broad shoulders all over the runway.

So, we looked back at some of the most important figures of that decade and found six ‘80s blazers you can shop right now. No matter if you’re more a Madonna or a Cindy Crawford, we got you covered.

Here are 6 blazers inspired by the 80s that you can wear to the office in summer 2025:

Before conquering the world with an Armani blazer during the 1990 Golden Globes, Julia Roberts was already giving classes on how to wear it.

Accompanied by Dolly Parton, the actor arrived at the premiere of the film Steel Magnolias, wearing a black pencil skirt, high heels, and a striped blazer. It’s instant elegance.

In addition to wide shoulder pads, oversized blazers became a staple of the ’80s. Cher, one of the most important figures of those years, has many style hits to her credit, such as flared pants and one of the first interpretations of the naked dress.

So it was no surprise that she was seen at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival, wearing an oversized white blazer, a midi skirt and black boots, an outfit that was as rock star as it was sophisticated.

Plaid blazers are a classic that has been reimagined many times. As such, adding one with color is the perfect way to give them a more interesting look. This is something Princess Diana knew, as she favored yellow, sky blue, and red designs.

With puffed sleeves and small buttons, this blazer worn with a matching skirt, kitten heels, and black beret invites you to give a chance to nod toward tradition with some flair.

5: The leather blazer

Whitney Houston conquered the world with her powerful voice, but also with her style. The “I Will Always Love You” singer always found a way to integrate blazers into her outfit.

On stage in London she paired a leather version with a mini-dress, semi-transparent tights, and glittered bracelet heels. It’s pure pop star chic.

6: The cropped blazer

The 80s liked extremes, a garment was either very long or very short. While oversized blazers are most associated with these years, the truth is that those short ones were just as popular.

Olivia Newton John, for instance, opted for an embroidered cropped blazer to celebrate the 1989 American Music Awards, proving that there is no better way to finish a look than with a trusty blazer, no matter how long it is.
