A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Drake Passage, a body of water between the southernmost tip of South America and Antarctica, on Thursday.
The earthquake struck at 11:16 p.m. Argentina time off the coasts of Chile and Argentina at a depth of six miles, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The Chilean government warned of possible tsunami waves at some of its bases in Antarctica.
The National Tsunami Warning Center said there was little risk of a tsunami to the United States. The U.S. Geological Survey revised its measurement of the earthquake to 7.5, down from an initial reading of 8.
