rapper Lil Nas X was arrested Thursday after allegedly charging at police officers who had found him walking in his underwear, police in Los Angeles said.
Officers were responding to reports of a nude man on Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighborhood when they found the artist, born Montero Lamar Hill, at around 6am local time, a police spokesperson said.
After a brief struggle in which he “charged at officers,” he was taken into custody and to a hospital for a suspected overdose.
He was then booked on suspicion of misdemeanor obstructing an officer and held in jail.
Representatives for the rapper did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Video published by TMZ appeared to show the artist in underwear and boots on the street, at one point placing a traffic cone on his head.
Record-breaking artist
The 26-year-old Lil Nas X rose to fame with his 2018 breakout hit “Old Town Road,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a record 19 weeks.
He was the first openly gay man to win a Country Music Association award for the song, which also earned him two Grammys.
His debut album “Montero” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2021 and earned a Grammy nomination for album of the year.
