Summary

  • Doja Cat has released a new music video for her single “Jealous Type”
  • The video features a retro, ’80s-inspired aesthetic and a theme of duality
  • The song is the first single from her upcoming album, Vie

Doja Cat has unleashed her new single, “Jealous Type,” accompanied by a sensual music video that signals a bold new direction for the artist. The track, which is the first single from her upcoming album, Vie, is a sleek, ’80s-inspired funk-pop song that takes a step away from the darker, rap-focused energy of her previous album, Scarlet.

The video, directed by Boni Mata, embraces a retro-inspired aesthetic. It opens with Doja Cat sitting down to watch a home movie of herself on a vintage reel-to-reel projector. The visual then leans into a theme of duality as she comes face-to-face with a second version of herself. The two Dojas, both dressed in stylish ’80s attire, start by dancing on opposite sides of a limousine window before coming together on the hood of the vehicle, as if confronting different sides of her personality.

The song itself explores the theme of confronting a partner’s “jealous tendencies.” In a recent interview, Doja explained that the album’s main theme is “love bombing,” and the song explores a feeling of “being okay with when someone finds someone else and understanding that and taking value from it as a lesson.” The music video serves as a stylish and introspective visual companion to the track produced by Jack Antonoff and Y2K, giving fans a clear look at the direction of her new album, which is due out on September 26.
