The Cleveland Browns will need to cut their roster down ahead of the regular season. With that in mind, the question has become, what does the team end up doing at the quarterback position?
Joe Flacco will be the Browns’ Week 1 starting quarterback, barring a massive unforeseen change. Behind him, the team has Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders currently on the roster.
Sanders has been the most talked about player in the Cleveland quarterback room. In fact, he has been one of the most talked about storylines throughout the entire league. However, is he a lock to make the roster?
That is something an NFL insider has taken a look at.

Jason Lloyd of The Athletic took an honest approach to the Browns’ quarterback room. He doesn’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that Sanders could be released before the regular season.
“Since Gabriel remains the preferred choice of the head coach after OTAs, minicamps and training camp, and the Browns are intent on taking another quarterback in the first round next year, why keep Sanders? It’s just clouding the airspace and limiting the reps for everyone,” Lloyd said.
Should Cleveland make the decision to release Sanders, it would cause a media firestorm throughout the NFL. The decision alone would shock the league, but the ensuing questions about where Sanders could sign would dominate the news cycle.
In his NFL debut during the Browns’ preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, Sanders looked sharp. He looked the part of an NFL quarterback.
During that game, Sanders completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts for 138 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also ran for 19 yards on four attempts. Those numbers stirred up the conversation about him potentially being a long-term option for Cleveland.

Only time will tell, but the roster has not been set yet. Sanders was a fifth-round pick at the end of the day, which could open him up to being a potential cut or trade candidate.
Expect to continue hearing a lot of speculation about Sanders’ future with the Browns. Until Andrew Berry and the front office finalizes the roster, those questions will persist.
