Phillies Urged to Avoid Superstar Free Agent, Pay Kyle Schwarber Instead

The Philadelphia Phillies have been aggressive in roster building over the years, but they may avoid the upcoming Kyle Tucker sweepstakes.

Tucker was projected to be a $500 million player after his scorching hot start with the Chicago Cubs. However, an extended slump and a surprise injury may have diminished his value slightly. His injury may be playing a role in his decline.

Regardless, FanSided’s Curt Bishop urged the Phillies to focus on re-signing Kyle Schwarber instead of going after Tucker.

“The Philadelphia Phillies will likely be focused elsewhere anyway,” wrote Bishop. “Kyle Schwarber is a free agent at the end of the 2025 season, and the Phillies will likely do everything in their power to try and keep him around for the next several years. Tucker will also cost a lot of money, and the Phillies are already saddled with the money owed to Nick Castellanos, who hasn’t quite panned out as a key piece of the team. But even without Schwarber, the Phillies may want to focus elsewhere if Tucker’s struggles continue.”

His struggles since the start of June are concerning, but the revelation of his hand injury may ease the minds of some teams looking to pay him. Even with the struggles, he figures to demand a massive contract.

Schwarber has already shown the Phillies what he can do for them, and he will be their top priority. Going after Tucker will decrease their chances of bringing Schwarber back.
