The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an exciting team on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has done wonders with the team and experienced a resurgence of his own.

Young running back Bucky Irving has also been one of the better runners in the league, along with the defense stepping up in big ways. One of the biggest issues for the team is the wide receiver room.

Chris Godwin experienced a major injury in 2024, leaving the team with Mike Evans taking the bulk of the catches and yards. Having Evans always makes this take dangerous, but more is needed.

Godwin suffered an ankle dislocation, which led to him missing the majority of the 2024 season. Now, the Buccaneers have received a major update on the receiver, but one that might force them to make a major move.

Sources: Buccaneers plan to activate WR Chris Godwin off the Physically Unable to Perform list and have him on their 53-man roster to start the season, but only to begin his ramp-up process for games, not to immediately play in them. Godwin is set to start the season on the PUP list, and the plan is to slowly ramp him up to eventually play during the 2025 season. The report from NFL insider Adam Schefter indicates that Godwin might also not play until October.

Considering the team will be without one of their top receivers, this could lead the Buccaneers to make a major move for a receiver.

Jalen McMillan is also set to be out for weeks due to a neck injury. The lack of playmakers can lead to a major trade or free agency pickup.

Multiple trades kicked off in the NFL, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs send Skyy Moore to the depleted San Francisco 49ers. Expect something similar to come from the Buccaneers.

According to overthecap.com, the Buccaneers currently have $26 million to play with leading to the regular season. It would be believed that the team would attempt to make a major move to land a receiver from teams that are stacked at the position.

At the very least, expect Tampa Bay to pick up a receiver or two when the tough 53-man roster cuts begin in the coming days.
