Kesha has never shied away from bold expression, which she channels through her many creative projects and musical endeavors. But what really fuels her aspirations is a sense of true passion. Beyond music, one of her main passions is the ocean — she even went as far as to receive an advanced diver’s certification due to her deep appreciation for whales and sea conservation. It’s this unique interest that created an effortless synergy with the CEO of Solgaard for a one-of-one collaboration: the Joyride collection.
The multifaceted accessory brand’s CEO and Creative Director, Adrian Solgaard, is a trailblazer in ocean plastic and regenerative business practices, as well as sustainable, luxury accessory design. He was inspired to start his ocean impact work after a surfing trip to Bali brought the abundance of plastic waste we now face to his attention — and now, the company has prevented over 3 million pounds of ocean plastic to date. The founder met the pop icon right after Kesha reclaimed her voice and artistic control in 2024, and it seemed like the perfect time to dive into a project that lit up her soul.
“My brother was in the Peace Corps in Honduras, and while I was visiting him, I got my dive certification. I started becoming obsessed; my dive obsession has taken me all over the world from South Africa to the Galapagos. From being an adamant shark diver, I have been outspoken on my desire to ban shark finning. I fell in love with marine life by seeing how interconnected nature and sea life are, and I became more conscious of protecting it and raising awareness for ocean conservation,” Kesha expressed. “And I’m a triple Pisces!”
Solgaard echoed the star’s sentiments, sharing why consciously-designed products are at the core of the brand. “Using sustainable materials takes extra time and extra learnings. Oftentimes, it’s more expensive too — but that doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do. There’s something inherently luxurious about feeling good about the purchases that you make. Through our business model, with every item we sell, we clean up six pounds of plastic,” Solgaard continued. “Owning high-quality, thoughtfully designed products, with environmentally regenerative impact built-in, is luxury.”
The Joyride collection blends premium design with innovative sustainable tech, and as Kesha is the range’s muse, the assortment is, of course, infused with a sense of unapologetic attitude and pop art references. The collection’s tagline, “Joyride,” is also the title of the star’s debut track from her recently released album . (pronounced Period).
The pop star’s musical project is a mix of iconic pop references from past eras, and the musically charged accessory collab references nostalgia as well. The range includes the versatile Solgaard x Kesha Joyride vegan leather mini tote, which comes in a neutral color palette that allows the collaboration’s tagline to shine. The bag features a customized pocket that’s the perfect size for the limited-edition Solgaard x Kesha Joyride Solarbank Boombox. The special-edition tech offering can be solar-charged through its inventive pocket, tying in both the artist and Solgaard’s affinity for sustainability.
Kesha dove into the design process, sharing, “Part of my inspiration for the Joyride bag was when I was speaking to Adrien, I was talking about how I wished I had a fashionable bag that I could play my new music from. He said he could easily solve my problem.”
Expanding upon the collection’s design, Solgaard shared, “I’ve always loved integrating modern-day tech with timeless design. When I hear the old adage, ‘Fashion over function.’ I think, ‘Why not both?’ Co-creation is my favorite state of flow, and collaborating with the creative powerhouse and true artist that is Kesha was a joyride in itself. Her song ‘Joyride’ is about freedom — mind, body [and] spirit. I wanted to seize this moment to celebrate this new chapter of her career, and this accessories collection felt like a 3D representation of her newfound freedom, which echoes our [Solgaard’s] business ethos around location independence and the comfort of home on the go.”
“Adrian and I share many values in our lives. We love to travel, we love to create and we love to make life a little easier and a little more beautiful — all while helping raise awareness for the ocean. I appreciate that Solgaard makes suitcases and bags out of recycled ocean plastics. I hope this bag gives people freedom to listen to what lights them up wherever life takes them,” the singer added.
The Solgaard x Kesha Solarbank Boombox is a convenient 3-in-1 Bluetooth speaker, power bank and solar charger with a durable recycled polycarbonate exterior. Able to float and be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes, it can follow your summer adventures from the car to the beach, or even the pool. As far as its solar capabilities go, one hour of sun yields two hours of music, so you can keep the vibes high without worrying about the speaker’s charge.
Want to take the Joyride collection for a spin? The bag is available for $175 USD, the speaker is $175 USD, or you can purchase them in a bundle for $300 at solgaard.co/kesha.
