In these final weeks before the regular season gets underway, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the few teams still addressing off-field business. As their saga with Micah Parsons rages on, owner Jerry Jones made some choice remarks about the situation.
Dating back to March, Parsons has been eager to lock down a contract extension off his rookie deal. Despite being a high-level talent, things have not worked themselves out, and the two sides have had minimal talks.
Since training camp began, this ordeal has become a worst-case scenario for the Cowboys. Parsons has yet to join his teammates in practice, and he openly requested a trade with a viral social media post earlier this month.

Following numerous public jabs being made from Parsons and the Cowboys, many believe the only way things can be resolved at this point is the star linebacker moving on elsewhere.
Jerry Jones hints at wanting Cowboys star Micah Parsons to take a team-friendly deal
On Thursday morning, Jones made a TV appearance on Fox News to discuss a variety of topics. As expected, the Cowboys’ dealings with Parsons came up.
When asked for an update on extension talks, Jones made some choice remarks. He hinted at the idea of wanting Parsons to take a team-friendly deal to help better fill out the cast of talent around him.
“He knows more than anyone that it’s a team thing,” Jones said. “I know everybody is tired of hearing this, but you got to put this puzzle together so that you can have some other people out there playing with Micah. That’s the art of the deal and that’s what we’re trying to get done. We’re trying to make this thing work, but we have all the appreciation for what he can mean to the years ahead.”

As an All-Pro-level player in the prime of his career, Parsons is not in a position to be taking a pay cut. This is the time for him to maximize his earning potential before his playing days are over. Especially in an offseason where Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt signed a record-breaking $123 million extension.
Parsons is in a similar tier with Watt when it comes to the NFL‘s top defensive players and is more than deserving of a similar contract.
Over the past few years, the Cowboys’ roster has gotten very expensive with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb inking sizable extensions. Only time will tell if Jones is willing to give out one more massive payday for another homegrown star.
