How to Style a Blazer This Fall in 11 Fresh, Unexpected Ways

If you’ve ever wondered how to style a blazer, you’ve come to the right place. This may sound excessive, but I currently have not one, not two, but seven blazers in my possession. In my defense, they’re all very different from one another—one is butter yellow, one is cashmere, one has short sleeves… Of course, I also need classic black and pinstripe options and a few fitted vs. boxy blazers too. My point is, when it comes to blazer outfit ideas, I have spent years perfecting different styling tips to find the best combinations.

Because once the temperatures start to drop, having at least one or two trusty blazers in rotation will lead to endless fall outfits for any vibe you want: cozy chic, corporate ready, low-key elegance, and everything in between. Whether you’re going for a casual outfit or a dressy vibe, blazers are that reliable clutch piece that can instantly elevate any look. Not to mention, it may be the only outerwear that’s actually worn year-round. Even summer weddings turn chilly at night, and a blazer is pretty much the only jacket that looks good with a gown.

The best blazers surpass fashion trends and exist amongst jeans and white t-shirts as wardrobe staples we can’t function without. That said, the piece is so classic that it can be easy to fall into a style rut. That’s where knowing how to style a blazer to the latest trends comes in. You’re not new here. You already know capri pants are back, and it was celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber who helped bring about the return of the pedal pusher. Wearing blazers with capris is one way to bring pant trend into fall and gives a cool, elevated edge to a business casual look. Pair them with your favorite pumps, Mary Janes, or sneakers and a baseball cap. Either way, it works.

My favorite classic blazer outfit is a midi skirt and blazer combo. Whether you choose a dressier option (like the lace skirt pictured above) or a more casual white poplin skirt is irrelevant. No matter which combo you choose, this pairing always goes together like cake and coffee. You can just as easily wear a mini or maxi skirt, sure, but there’s something about the cut off above the ankles that looks and feels most elegant and on trend. As for shoes, I’d recommend ballet flats or loafers for work, sneakers or clogs on the weekend, and heels if it’s a more formal event.

There’s no model off-duty look quite like the blazer, hat, and sneakers ensemble. Wear any of your favorite jeans and button-down underneath the blazer. Extra points if you add a T-shirt layer too.
