Korea’s Barunson E&A has announced an exclusive two-year partnership with Come And See Pictures, the production company founded in 2020 by visionary Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar and his longtime producing partner, Tia Hasibuan.

Under the agreement, Barunson E&A will handle worldwide sales for all films produced by Come And See Pictures.

The partnership is kicking off with Ghost In The Cell. Written and directed by Anwar, the film is set in a notorious prison where a mysterious, unseen force begins to slaughter inmates, forcing rival gangs and crooked guards to unite in an attempt to survive the terrifying and bloody chaos.

Barunson E&A will officially launch international sales for on the film at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival and the Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan.

The deal also covers sMothered (Legenda Kelam Malin Kundang), which Anwar is producing through Come And See Pictures, but not directing.

Anwar’s 2017 horror hit Satan’s Slaves became the highest-grossing Indonesian film of the year and was distributed in over 40 territories. In 2019, Anwar’s Impetigore premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was selected as Indonesia’s official submission to the Academy Awards. That same year, he launched Indonesia’s first cinematic superhero universe with Gundala, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Anwar’s latest action feature, The Siege At Thorn High, is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and released globally on Prime Video on August 15.

Anwar commented: “Come And See Pictures was founded on the belief that bold, fearless storytelling can move and transform audiences. Barunson E&A has long embodied that same vision through their groundbreaking work. This slate agreement is an opportunity for us to unite our passions and push cinematic boundaries together—creating films that take risks, inspire conversation, and leave a lasting mark on audiences around the world. I’m excited for the stories we’ll bring to life over the next two years.”

Barunson E&A CEO Yoonhee Choi said: “Drawing on years of engagement with Indonesia’s vibrant film scene – including landmark films such as Impetigore and Satan’s Slaves, which I was involved with during my time at CJ ENM – Barunson E&A possesses deep insights that define and drive our strategic collaborations in the region. This exclusive partnership with Joko Anwar leverages our accumulated expertise in the Indonesian market, and we look forward to sharing his vision, and exceptional Indonesian cinema, with audiences worldwide.”

Barunson E&A is working with other Indonesian production companies, including Visinema Pictures (Jumbo), Base Entertainment (Respati), Miles Films (Rangga & Cinta), Rapi Films (The Book of Sijjin & Illiyyin) and Imajinari (Agak Laen series).
