Seattle has already matched last year’s record by reaching the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup, but is now looking to best that feat at home to Mexican side Puebla on Wednesday. The midweek matchup will present the maiden meeting between these teams, with one team on fire in its domestic division while the other is struggling immensely.
The Sounders are looking like shoo-ins to reach the Major League Soccer play-offs as a bare minimum. Brian Schmetzer’s men sit fourth in the Western Conference after a recent stretch of 10 games unbeaten, though that run came crashing down in a 1-0 defeat to Minnesota over the weekend.
Puebla, on the other hand, sits 17th in Liga MX’s Apertura standings after winning just one of its five games so far this term. La Franka beat MLS sides New York City FC and Montreal in the group stage of this year’s Leagues Cup but did fall 3-1 away to Columbus Crew.
Danny Musovski has been in fine fettle up front for Seattle this season and has 12 goals in 32 games for Wednesday’s hosts. Meanwhile, Uruguayan Emiliano Gomez has been Puebla’s main source of goals in the Leagues Cup as he looks to add to his plunder this week.
