After a fantastic 8-2 run brought them back into the playoff conversation, the Sparks have sputtered a bit, losing three of their last five, falling back to the No. 9 seed. Their last game was an extremely important one, facing the Washington Mystics, who are also fighting for the last spot, but ultimately it ended in a 95-86 loss. Dearica Hamby scored 26 points to lead the team, but it wasn’t enough as the Mystics held on at home.
Dallas isn’t playing much better as of late, with a roster that features nine players with two or fewer years of experience, including four rookies. The Wings have lost seven of eight, with the last defeat coming at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces, by a score of 106-87. Maddy Siegrist shot 11-for-15 from the field to score 23 points, with Paige Bueckers adding 18 of her own, but they went just 3-for-17 from the 3-point line as a team and couldn’t keep up with the offensive-minded Aces.
The Wings and Sparks have matched up twice so far this season, with the Sparks taking both games.
