Eagles’ Rival May Be Overselling Confidence in Micah Parsons

In roughly two weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys will kick off the 2025 NFL season. Will Micah Parsons be a part of the festivities?

The Cowboys aren’t showing their nerves.

“I think at the end of the day, we feel like Micah is going to be out there when we go line up against Philadelphia in 15 days.” Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer said.

Confidence is key in Dallas, but Schottenheimer’s words are nothing more than a head coach speaking a desirable scenario into existence.

Parsons has wanted a new deal from Dallas for the past year. The Cowboys preferred that he stay patient. Jerry Jones thought he had a handshake agreement in place, but the reality was that Parsons didn’t feel comfortable with the way negotiations played out.

Contract discussions went on hold again. Parsons made a couple of public statements, making it clear he was frustrated. Jones fired back and caused a dramatic uproar, which then led to Parsons telling the world that he submitted a trade request. The veteran no longer wanted to play for the Cowboys.

Parsons remains around the Cowboys as the offseason plays out. So far, he hasn’t shown any signs of wanting to play. It might take a new deal to get done before the star pass rusher suits up and puts his body on the line. Even if Parsons is in against the Eagles, the Week 1 rust would be hard to shake when you didn’t see any live action since last season.

Again, no worries from the rookie head coach.

“He takes great care of his body. Again, you’d like it sooner rather than later, but Micah is going to be prepared,” Schottenheimer told reporters.

“Micah knows his body as well as anybody, and the best thing of him being here is that he has been able to do some of the walk throughs, he has been able to be in the meetings, he understands some of the different calls and the different packages and stuff that we’re gonna use, and that’s a huge advantage.”

The Eagles are going to have every advantage possible next month. They are opening the year at home, in front of a crowd that’s still juiced up from a Super Bowl victory. The Cowboys have a quarterback who hasn’t played since early on last season. Then, the Micah Parsons situation is a glaring weakness for a team that has a lot to prove next year.

Dallas hopes that the third scenario isn’t much of an issue. Anybody paying attention understands that the situation is far from ideal.
