EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is going back to the drawing board on a potential second season of hit limited series The Perfect Couple.
As Deadline reported in March, the streamer has been developing a followup installment based on another Nantucket-set book by best-selling The Perfect Couple author Elin Hilderbrand, the 2024 novel Swan Song, with The Bear executive producer/co-showrunner Joanna Calo as writer/showrunner.
Calo has now exited the project, sources tell Deadline. There is no new writer attached yet to Swan Song, which remains in early development. A rep for Netflix, which has not confirmed the possible Perfect Couple second season yet, declined comment.
In Swan Song, a 22-million-dollar summer home is purchased by the mysterious Richardsons who throw lavish parties, flirt with multiple locals, flaunt their wealth with not one but two yachts, and raise impossible hopes of everyone they meet. When their house burns to the ground and their most essential employee goes missing, the entire island is up in arms.
Jenna Lamia was writer, executive producer and showrunner on The Perfect Couple, starring and executive produced by Nicole Kidman and directed and executive produced by Susanne Bier. Kidman and Bier are back as executive producers on the prospective Season 2 alongside fellow The Perfect Couple EPs Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Per Saari and Hend Baghdady.
The limited series, which also starred Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, Meghann Fahy, Donna Lynne Champlin, Jack Reynor, Michael Beach, Ishaan Khatter, Sam Nivola, Mia Isaac, and Dakota Fanning, debuted Sept. 5, 2024 and spent six weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 for English-language series, the first two at #1 with more than 20M views each.
