“Real Housewives of New York City” star Racquel Chevremont is suing her ex-fiancée, artist Mickalene Thomas, for $10 million in a bombshell lawsuit.
The reality star, who also works as an art curator and model, accused the renowned artist of a decade of “exploitation, nonpayment and unlawful conduct” from 2012 to 2022 in court documents obtained by Page Six.
“Ms. Chevremont was paid improperly for more than a decade, both as an employee and under a written agreement effective January 1, 2021, as well as for compensation prior to 2021 and for multimillion-dollar deals she negotiated on Ms. Thomas’ behalf,” the documents, filed on Aug. 8, alleged.
“Ms. Thomas also illegally diverted significant funds and business opportunities from her and Ms. Chevremont’s jointly-owned entity to MT LLC,” the documents continued.
Chevremont also claimed Thomas subjected her “to a hostile and abusive work environment.”
She claimed that after she broke up with Thomas in 2020, they continued to work together. The artist allegedly sexually harassed her by pressuring her to resume their romantic relationship, then terminated her when she refused to.
Chevremont is seeking $10 million plus attorneys’ fees and court costs.
Reps for both Thomas and Chevremont didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
Chevremont and Thomas — a celebrated artist known for her work in acrylics and rhinestones — first met in 2002 when Chevremont worked in acquisitions at the Studio Museum in Harlem and Thomas was the artist in residence.
They began dating in 2011 when they met up again in Paris. Thomas was an artist in residence at Monet’s estate in Giverny, France, and Chevremont also happened to be in the city, according to the site Only Natural Diamonds. Both were married at the time.
They launched Deux Femmes Noires in 2018 to give a platform to women, people of color and queer artists.
They got engaged in 2019. Chevremont said of Thomas’ proposal, “New Year’s Eve, we went out, and afterward we were in our living room and Mickalene came and sat next to me, handed me a box, and asked, ‘will you marry me?’”
But they split in 2020 just after mounting a much-hyped show together at the Hamptons art mecca, the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, Page Six exclusively reported in 2022.
Chevremont is now engaged to Mel Corpus, a forensic neuropsychologist.
